13th

13th is an incredibly well-done documentary which shows the specific and intentional legislation of racism and white supremacy in America. It's an incredibly important film for white people because we absolutely did that shit and we absolutely knew we were doing that shit and the longer we go on without this knowledge of how the system of racism works and what we did to put it in place, the harder it's going to be for us to be the allies we need to be. I am not an educator, but I was educated in the United States and the degree to which our history books gloss over slavery, the Jim Crow era, segregation, and Civil Rights in general with this bullshit, white savior, self-congratulatory paintbrush is no more evident than after reflecting upon this film. I would absolutely recommend that this be mandatory viewing for all history classrooms in the US.
