Beautiful Boy
Beautiful Boy left me feeling so many things all at once, I’m honestly still trying to sort them out. How is it that one moment I’m sobbing as “Beautiful Boy” plays after Nic’s overdose, then the next I’m grinning ear to ear watching him ride a bike, only to end up yelling at the TV in frustration when he relapses after 14 months of sobriety?
That’s what makes this film so powerful. It captures addiction with heartbreaking honesty — the hope, the despair, the small victories and devastating setbacks. It shows just how much has to change for someone to truly recover, and how painfully difficult that journey can be.
But more than anything, it’s a profound portrayal of a father’s love: the lengths a parent will go to for their child, and the painful limits of what even the deepest love can fix.
This film doesn’t sugarcoat anything. It’s raw, real, and absolutely essential viewing. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a movie you truly must watch.
