Harakiri
Second time watching harakiri and holy fuck I love this movie. such an amazing plot told through some of the most interesting dialogue. The shots in this movie are very deliberate and every movement of the camera has intent behind it.
What I think makes me love this film like I do is the structure. it starts with showing us the incident that’s sets off the events ending with motome’s burital act of sepoku/harakiri with a dull bamboo practice katana. Then the film starts following a random man whom we hadn’t see who is later revealed to be motomes father in law who has come to shine light on samurai honour being a façade. during this the director chose to show different events from Hanshiros past life with his daughter and son in law and it’s gradually revealed to us the reason for Motomes harakiri. Hanshiro then does the most badass shit in any movie and reveals that he made three of there clans best samurai (the ones responsible for his son in laws brutal death) his bitch and that they are claiming sickness instead of showing there dishonoured self.
The duel between hanshuro and the third samurai and the long walk to the scene is one of my favourite sequences in any film and both watches of this movie I’ve been glued to the screen 10/10
