Shoplifters
a poor family that steals,
but a family that really knows how to give you warmth, that really knows how to love you, that even if has nothing, tried to teach you something.
we face poverty, societal pressures, morality, domestic and child abuse,
and blood ties: are they really a part of what being a family truly means?
"giving birth automatically makes you a mother?"
how does such a disfunctional family that was chosen works better for them than the ones that were assigned to them?
i see this film as a better elaboration of Nobody Knows (2004) (because there's more to the plot, i still prefer Nobody Knows anyways), and i love how atmosphere, sensationalism and circumstance are the centerpiece of this movie.
the cinematography was stunning and flawless, to me only Kore-eda is capable of making that ambience look like that: so comforting yet shabby and messy.
the bond aki and rin had was so special, same scar, same story, same trauma, same love to give for one another.
"if someone hits you and tells you they are doing it because they love you, they are a liar..
[hugs rin]
this is what someone does when they love you."
