Heathers
I watched this movie like 100 times a few years ago and I’m only just writing a review because I’m avoiding homework but... this is one of my favorite movies with the ‘mean girls’ trope. A lot of movies with mean girls tend to make being feminine a bad thing, from high school musical to mean girls, women who dress in pink and prefer arts over sciences are written as the villain and some tomboy who isn’t like other girls has to prevail over them. Heathers doesn't do that. There is never indication that Veronica is less girly then the Heathers, and while the Heathers are said to be the most powerful clique in school they aren’t really portrayed as particularly feminine or dumb (or anything else used to portray other women in mean girl type movies). Heathers also shows the rape culture or teenage boys which I love, even in JD who is glorified by Veronica in the beginning. It’s really refreshing because rape culture is very real and prevalent among teenagers. All around this is a really good movie that portrays teenagers well (obviously more dramatically though) and has aged well.
