How to Train Your Dragon
Guys let’s all lighten up for a second and admit that this was an amazing live action.
I actually haven’t revisited the original film in a whileeeeee, and I was pleasantly surprised. Say what you want about live action remakes, but getting to see it now, after growing up with the original, felt like the film grew up with me. And it really translated on screen.
The casting was incredible. Every single choice just made sense. They weren’t trying to imitate the animated characters, they brought them to life in a more grounded, real way. And the cinematography? So beautiful. Every flying scene looked unreal. Yeah, you can tell it’s CGI, but who cares? It’s a movie about dragons.
Holy shit though, the score was incredible. John Powell did not miss. He took everything that made the original so emotional and brought it back even fuller and deeper. The music actually carried a lot of the film.
And what really hit me was how the meaning of the story changed for me. When I was younger, it felt like a movie about facing your fears and bravery. Now, it feels more like it’s about not following the path that’s been laid out for you about questioning what you’re taught, breaking cycles, and choosing your own way, even when it’s hard. It reminded me why I love fantasy so much — it takes the wildest parts of your imagination and makes them feel just a little bit possible.
Hit my Scorsese a couple times, watched in 3D as well, banger.
