Persona
the story of persona seems simple at first, almost like something that won’t really move you. but as the film goes on, you start to realize it’s dealing with much heavier stuff than it initially lets on. and suddenly it hits you, in a quiet, unsettling way, to the point where you’re kind of left speechless. liv ullmann delivers one of the best performances i’ve ever seen without saying a single word. elisabet’s silence weighs more than any monologue or dialogue ever could. the movie looks incredible, and the direction is absolutely surgical, every shot feels deliberate, controlled, and meaningful. even when the movie leaves you confused, it somehow explains itself emotionally. you might not be able to put it all into words, but you feel it. and that feeling stays with you for a long time
