“You're no messiah. You're a movie of the week. You're a fucking t-shirt, at best.”
I seem to be braver in the daylight.
This has always been on the top of my wishlist, but teetering between my love for good movies and my fear of plain old scary shit. But I’ve always been fascinated in the periphery, reading articles, listening to podcasts that goes through it scene by scene. Thought it fed my curiosity just enough until I finally decided to bite the bullet and it’s just as amazing as you’d expect.
So with that. Even knowing the ending, I was speechless, with my hands up, mouth open, teary eyed. Fucking genius.
What’s incredible is how much you don’t see—the mastery of restraint—and even talking to people about their favorite scenes, the most fucked up ‘sins’ and the ones that left an unearthing impression that never leaves their mind even decades later. Every single time, people describe visuals that never actually happen to the extent they remember. The movie itself leaves just enough for the viewer to fill in the rest. One of the only pieces of media where the audience leaves or even is sicker and more demented than the art itself.
Fincher kills it, has been killing it and will continue to kill it for the rest of his career. And we’ll be the first in line, on the edges of our seats to see what he does next.
"You know, this isn't going to have a happy ending."
