200 Motels
One of the defining aspects of Zappa’s music is his cynical, insane, sarcastic persona that drives the bizarre lyrics he writes, this movie feels like if those fucking crazy lyrics became a film, every single scene in this film is dripping with so much cynicism and comedy I was just grinning the whole time, this pairs with some insanely bizarre imagery, such as the soldier character and his fog bellowing suitcase of items or the most panic inducing drug sequence I’ve seen in a film after a guy smoked a blunt dipped in a vial of smoking bright red elixir.
The music is obviously incredible Zappa was a classically trained musician and great composer as well as being the most forward thinking rock artist so this really is no surprise.
The choice from Zappa to not speak a single line in the film and rather have Ringo Starr of the Beatles play a Zappa impersonator named “Larry The Dwarf” is an insane stroke of genius
Small note at the end here my favourite part of the film by far was the infomercial style scene narrated by Ringo of a concentration camp for old useless classical musicians, that felt like something straight out of Joe’s garage
