Zardoz
An absolute masterclass in Dystopian fiction.
This film only becomes more and more poignant as time passes, the themes at the core of this movie of humanity appointing themselves as false gods, the hubris of man appointing themselves as greater than others and above nature is something that only becomes more and more realised as time goes on and more of the planet is destroyed by corporations and politicians.
One part while not as significant to the greater story that really resonated with the current climate of the world is use of a man appointed a false god through personality and fear tactics forging his own militia of uneducated followers to murder those seen as lesser by him for no reason aside from prejudice… I’ll allow you to connect the dots from there.
This movie will never not be relevant, as our society barrels faster and faster into an earth ruled by billionaires who view themselves as above all others you can’t help but draw comparisons.
The imagery in this film is also among some of the most gripping I’ve ever seen, the scene where Zed looks for Friend in the room of dancing renegades is unbelievably haunting and will not leave my mind.
This is amongst the greatest dystopian fiction in my mind and absolutely a classic beyond doubt.
