Violet
This short film can be watched here: Violet (1981)
Violet is an odd and quirky film. It is the story of a young woman making a journey across the county to see a faith healer to take away a facial scar. On the journey, she meets two soldiers and falls in love with one. Her journey for healing becomes a journey of discovery as she learns that there are no miracle cures and that, when she accepts herself and loves herself, other can love her too.
It is a nice premise for a story, but the execution is strange. Violet, played by Didi Conn (most famous for her role of Frenchie in Grease) seems to be somewhere on the spectrum and is not particularly (in my opinion) a likable character. I did not find myself really rooting for her or relating to her story.
This short film won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for 1981.
