The Devil All the Time

“Some people were born just so they could be buried.“ was pretty hard to follow a couple of the storylines, with them only really making sense once they had all overlapped — before that point, i wondered why half were even present — but it was enjoyable nonetheless. i REALLY liked tom holland in this, a lot more than i thought i would, his acting was great and he suits the character very well. the themes of this film were also very appealing to me and i think they were executed brilliantly, seen in the dark earthy color palette and the bleak tone in particular, leaving me totally engrossed. truly great atmosphere overall, i felt all the tension i was supposed to feel, thanks to the great sound design and pacing of each scene. i’m also a fan of the use of a narrator, especially since donald ray pollock’s voice is perfect for the genre and setting, however i believe there is a little too much reliance on the narrative voice instead of letting the film speak for itself. regardless, a strong 4/5!
