Piety
You can tell Eduardo made a film just by looking at the colors.
Visuals are disturbing, impactful, made me feel nauseous sometimes and I loved it.
I think I see a little further than a simple parallel between motherhood and dictature which is obviously the main topic.
I interpreted the scene where libertad and Marta are talking as a women mental load denunciation. Indeed, the fact that marta asks libertad for advices to be indispensable for her kid just like libertad managed to do made me think about it. Not only on the toxic way we could see at first but as a real denunciation that a woman can't be anything if she's not a mother or a wife. And that mother mental load made a lot of women too protective with their child until it became toxic and even incestuous in some way.
About mateo, his character embodies well the average brainwashed person. He wants libertad but Libertad doesn't allow him any free will, free time, free thinking way. She managed to made him feel culprit about her suicide attempt and then he completely lost his will of freedom and became the perfect little sheep shaped in his mother's mold.
There're more and more to say about this movie but my review will never end so I guess I'll have to stop there.
Un petit mot pour la fin : c'était un giga banger.
