Scream 4
to be honest, it hurts to admit, but i only watched this for my ex. he loves the scream franchise, so i decided to try and impress him. what i didn’t think of was that the scream franchise was actually better than i thought, leaving me aching for more. now, my ex is long gone now, and i’ve taken scream for myself now.
i haven’t seen scream 4 on a whole lot of top 4s, and i understand why. it isn’t the best horror movie, hell, it might not even be considered the best of the franchise, but i totally think it was its peak. the somewhat antiquated series now has some modern elements to it, leading to a mix of nostalgia from the first few movies and a feeling of reality (although this is far from it).
the plot twist is something you don’t really see coming, i remember my jaw absolutely dropping at the revelation. emma roberts’ performance in this is amazing, like her or not, and the overall atmosphere is so unique. it keeps you guessing, implementing “horror movie rules” into an actual horror movie, sort of breaking the fourth wall (the concept of stab as well). i think it’s so unique that way.
