Conclave
A solid film, although it does feel a tad pretentious at times.
The film makes no attempt to explain how a conclave actually works, and had I not known beforehand I would likely have been quite confused as to what was going on until I worked it out. But for a film that’s entirely 2 hours of people talking it’s very much entertaining and kept me hooked throughout.
The main issue I have is a couple of plot lines that have no bearing on the rest of the film and get forgotten about as soon as they’re over, namely the suicide bomber plot. As well as the ending of the film feeling really abrupt, leaving no time to deal with the consequences of its climax.
The acting is phenomenal throughout, with Ralph Fienne’s performance being a true spectacle .
Overall, solid film with a great twist at the end that makes a lot of sense in the religious space the film is set in, as it’s one of the few spaces it would ever be a problem in.
