Jojo Rabbit
I love films that have concepts that make you go “wait, what?” When you read them, this film’s concept was the epitome of that. I went into it expecting “haha funny Hitler film”, which in itself it’s a crazy ass statement, but came out the other side having watched a frankly incredible film. It broke my heart, made me laugh, cry, and the ending made me grin like an absolute idiot. Genuinely one of the best movie endings I’ve ever seen.
It’s such a batshit film that manages to be full of heart, while also being outright hilarious at times, then breaking your heart immediately afterwards.
I love how the story was told through the eyes of a German ten year old, it’s such an interesting take on WWII that we never get to see, and provided a vastly different experience to anything I’ve ever seen before.
This was frankly a masterclass in filmmaking, which feels concerningly poignant in the modern day. and I honestly do not know how it was made by the same guy who made Thor love and thunder, but here we are.
This reminded me just why I love cinema, the final scene reminding me why I’m pursuing the arts, just as I’d began to forget.
Now, say it with me. FUCK YOU HITLER.
