The Odyssey
I’m not a massive Nolan fan but by god am I a massive fan of Greek mythology, and I had my concerns before going into this, but I liked it much much more than I thought I would. The godly presence is more inferred than it is literal, but that fits this version of the story.
Every actor absolutely crushed it, and there’s definitely an Oscar or two in here. Nolan’s refusal to use CGI is honestly a blessing in today’s age, the puppetry and practical effects in this were extraordinary, especially the cyclops. The sense of dread I felt as soon as I saw that sheep was unreal. The cyclops, Circe, and even Antinuous all managed to feel terrifying in their own ways, even when you know the story inside and out. And by god, the ending was incredible, one of the best action scenes I’ve ever seen.
If you’re going to watch this, don’t wait till it’s on streaming. Watch it on the big screen, where it belongs. This was my first time seeing a film in IMAX and by god was it worth it, despite having to go on my own odyssey to get to the cinema because it’s in the middle of fuck ass nowhere.
It’s satisfied my ache for Greek mythology more than I expected it to, despite its exclusion of the gods (and the wind bag.. which is the one exclusion that feels missing)
I loved it, a true Greek epic on the big screen in 2026… I can only get so hard.
