Audition
Kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri!
This film has aged exceptionally well alongside the rise of dating apps.
This one offers a fierce critique of male narcissism and the subtle objectification of women, through the 'audition' process— where Aoyama views selecting your partner as casually as choosing your new car.
The strenght of the movie lies in the surreal exploration of Asami's trauma and its transformation into a philosophy, but the most important one is love as ownership, and ownership as mutilation.
The most compellingly for me is how the act of severing feet directly mirrors the condition of her stepfather, certainly a keeper.
