This film is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. Firstly, it’s tied for the most beautiful, best looking film I’ve ever seen. The colour palette is astonishing and the cinematography is beyond gorgeous, every shot of this movie is like a meticulously crafted painting. Even in moments of war, killing and despair, there is always a harmony on the screen which makes it amazing to look at, truly visually stunning storytelling. Furthermore, the scale of this film is breathtaking and the score/sound design is beautiful. Perhaps most of all, the story, despite being slowly paced, is enthralling, exploring corruption of power, the absurdity of war, descent into madness and the power of revenge. It’s easily the best movie adaptation of Shakespeare and masterfully directed by one of the best to ever do it, Akira Kurosawa, 10/10
