Dunkirk
Christopher Nolan saw time and said,
"I can make this the protagonist of my films."
I spent the first ten minutes recovering from the fact that Harry Styles was in this film, being grateful that I had no idea he was in this. Thank you for keeping me in dark.🫶🏻
And then another ten every time Cillian Murphy appeared because apparently Nolan and I share the same inability to leave that man out of a project, and then I spent the rest of the runtime getting psychologically manipulated by a clock.
The genius isn't that there are three timelines.
The genius is that he convinces you they're happening together.
**
A week.
A day.
An hour.**
He cuts between them so effortlessly that your brain stitches them into one continuous experience, only to realize at the end that you've been watching three different clocks slowly ticking toward the exact same moment.
Also the colors?? The endless blue sea swallowing tiny silhouettes, the gray skies, the silence between explosions, somehow a film this terrifying is also this beautiful.
Anyway, my GOAT has a suspiciously intimate relationship with the concept of time, and I am just grateful I get to witness it.
