"Can't you talk without your lighter?" I am sitting in front of my screen, just shaking my head because of how ridiculously good this is. Psychological horror has never been as good as it is in Cure. Koji Yakusho is so perfect for this character, he's such a terrific actor man. Seeing Takabe slowly lose his mind while falling into a hypnosis or even psychosis is pretty frightening. Do we really have all of this deep inside of us, and it just needs to be brought out, break free? Every shot in this is masterful, reminds me a lot of Memories of Murder. Two such perfectly and maturely directed films. Very inspiring to say the least. Cant wait to rewatch, there's a lot to unpack here. Japanuary 2026
