The Florida Project

First of all, the camera work, the colors and the saturation are so incredibly beautiful. This film has so many great shots and is probably one of, if not the most beautifully filmed movie I've seen this year. There is a stretch in the middle that might seem a little boring, but I still think it helped a lot to absorb the everyday life and feelings of the characters in this case. And that's exactly what Sean Baker does so well here; you can really put yourself in the characters' shoes. This film is very fucked up and the plot is tragic, yet somehow the filmmaking creates a feeling of home and hope. Willem Dafoe as Bobby plays so well into creating that feeling in you. I thought his character was really beautifully written, and it probably has some of my favorite Willem Dafoe scenes I've seen so far. This film really hit the spot for me and i'm looking forward to seeing more of Sean Baker's work.
