The Negative Views on Prison and Judgment
I loved this movie a fuck ton because of the way it just divides its ideais into the bad and the good the bas in here is pretty clear and i fjcking adore the way they explore the american prison system and really just shows us the harsh realities of the justice not the prison and cruel inmates but the sytsem itself the hars realities they put nice people trough with deeply rotted judjgment and social prejudice they do to them. The best part of this is how it portays prison ans this dehumanizing system it really shows how this system will really often reduce their individuals to their mistakes rather than them as a whole and they use their crimes to define who they are the film really emphasisies on not just the system but even society itself is always presenting the ones in prison with a permanent mark of just pointless judjment no matter how much they are trying to reedem themselves. the movie shows us prison for what it really is and not what it wants to be it doesnt show us a full olace of rehabilitstion but more of this olace of just bland melancholy and sufferung where people in there go to get forgotteb and be marked as irredimiable. that theme of just judgment is really a core on the whole movie like i said before the people in sing sing arent only judged wrongly by the system but also society that is very quick in making decisions about who they are based on their criminal records. the film knows how to criticize that judjgment where people inside are bad and out are good and has no room for the complexes of human mistakes and growth wich is all this movie is about redemption and growth. the movei really knows how to use its characters and is very smart in choosing ex sing sing prisioners to play themselbes basicallu he uses them to show there is kindness even in prison and how they shpuldnt be punished but given a chance to reedem themselves and also addresses just how the society fails to eve search the roots of their crimes and why might they have done it thats mostly poverty and addictiom or mental illnesses.
in addition another theme of sing sing (atleast a negative one) is the isolation and comolete loss of identitity
there have been multiple studies that show in prison prisioners stay in there for so long and areng given activities in there to remain themselves that they start to lose sense of who theya re and when they are finnaly out they cant adapt to real life and want to go back the prison walls in here arent just a pyshical imprisionmemt but also a psychological one of the characteres keeping them from qho they are theatrr being the only place in the prison where they can be their true selves but still in sing sing they struggl to mamahe who they are and keep connected to their loved ones the movie really sets that glooomy lost really well just for the most part always having that sense of loss and hopeleness for the future
The hopeful side of Sing Sing:
despite all this this is till a very happy movie that radiates hope and transformation the film really balances that dark criticism with its story of growth and happy stuff and uses the rehabilitstion trough arts progam as the heart of that whole process bevause that movement is very known as small but important beacon of light in the 70s in prison when it was introduced and the fucking ideia of getting ex inmates in there just playing themselves was so good and really added to the whole story and made it more personal as they went trough this themselves and offered them a chance to reclaik their humanity and express their emotions for the first time. coleman domingo is a fucking oscar winning performance in this i think we all can admit thst he is such a versatile actor qnd just so fucking good he representa the people that went trough this i was actually feeling so bad for him his happiness and such optimistix state and then seeing that just being crushed down is so sad GIVE HIM AND DIVINE EYE THEIR MOTHERFUCKING OSCARS. all the inmates deserve awarda tbh this movie is just so hopeful and will make your day so much better the friendhip they all had alone makes me believe and shows everyone that even in a dark injustice system there is still hope liberation and light even in such a dark place and the bond they all had trough harsh experiences and trauma and then them and us seeing them as more than just prisioners but people and that bulding sense of comunity slowly increasing and slowly breaking the opressive walls of prison everytbing is FUCKING PERFECT and we see this trouh divine g eye so the fact greg kwedar made all the prison scenes so beautiful because g saw beauty and happiness even in that place OMFG I LOVE THIS SHOT. sing sing is hopeful and emphasizes the redemptive art of storytelling that theatrer program allowed everyone to confront their past and to tell their stories theuvwere afraid to and allowing them to believe in a future good to them it is a vessel for their self reflection and their healing showing growth is never impossible its peaj peak peak and divine eye ill get you taht fucking oscar its beautiful and i have no more to describe it contrasts itself with hope and isolation and by the end it will not deliver that burst of happiness but just hope and optimism not just for characters of a film but for the real life prisioners thay got out and for the ones that are still in the movie trough art shows that, no matter how dire the circumstances, the human spirit is capable of resilience and transformation.
Overall, I loved this movie a fuck ton. It dives deep into the flaws of the American prison system, not just the prison itself, but the system that judges people harshly and unfairly. It really shows how prison reduces people to their mistakes, ignoring who they really are. The use of real ex-prisoners playing themselves added a raw and personal touch. Coleman Domingo’s performance? Fucking Oscar-worthy bro the movie's got heart, and a hope, and a powerful message about redemption, growth, and how art can help people reclaim their humanity.
