Andrei Rublev
Tarkovsky’s lens is so patient, so empathetic, it’s almost hypnotic. It’s a wonder to watch him operate on such a massive scale with these massive set pieces that still manage to capture his naturalism and composition. A beautiful discussion of faith; its interplay with art and expression against the sorrow of the human experience. Against the horrors of ruling powers and religious structures that manipulate faith and art for control and oppression. As quick to celebrate the artist as it is to chastise and destroy. Yet despite it all, everything is ephemeral.
