Please note everything I say is entirely my own opinion and personal antidotes from one person, I am not an authority on anything except myself so take my perspective as only from one, not representative. Yeah am a shitty writer but I believe in my ability to write emotionally and frankly, to share and to search, to be in touch with my emotions, to be one voice in the community that has saved my life and others, i just love the act of sitting down and writing about shit even if no one gives a crap, ultimately all I wanna do is make people go see more films or revisit them with a new perspective. As a trans queer woman, I think that’s what we need more in the world currently, perspectives not narratives. 🇵🇸 FREE PALESTINE 🇵🇸 ────୨ৎ───────────୨ৎ───── b Discord: fireofmylions05 Favorites theme: Having that hot girl European horror summer, we’re gonna party like it’s the 1970s 🧛♀️ She/Her • 21 • #horror Film with a 💛 is basically part of the Filmdressing cannon [Top Favorite Films of All Time](https://boxd.it/8QCiu) (warning changes all the time cuz life) Every year, I will only give 1 special film in particular 5 stars before it resets the year after. Rebirth: Films that reminds me of my own transition and experiences as a trans queer woman Feels like "home": Films that remind me of the people in my life, my community, the people I cherish or mean something to me. Who’s gonna break it to Demien Chazelle that Babylon would have made bank if he just made it a Minions movie

Who’s gonna break it to Demien Chazelle that Babylon would have made bank if he just made it a Minions movie

When it comes to modern day trans cinema I think we're at the depression era, akin to Hollywood's depression era in the 1930s where the audiences living through turbulent and difficult times seeks both relatability (films that tangles) and affirmation (but ultimately in limits) and while there is a art to it of course, good films can be made out of this desire (namely I Saw the TV Glow) I would also say it leads to less challenging and questioning art to be made in fear of alienating the potential audience, in this case both the trans and cis. If I were to push that comparison further, then Sepi Mashiahof has always stand out to me as almost the Maya Deren of our current times and through the cannon of trans cinema with her focus on shorts that works and tries to transcend and evoke. That feeling of relatability is there but its never the end point for it is only the start to encapsulating and capturing uncertainties and if her previous shorts are about the uncertainties of trans connection (Love You Forever) and trans bodies (Smooth), Humans are Shapes equates Trans Existence to that of Aliens and in this case one that wishes to love a Man only for fear of Otheringness and Unbelonging to take over. The innate barriers that separates yet makes of us trans and cis, how it draws us closer but also apart, thus existence itself. Yet again theres so much to chew on here like Sepi's other shorts and while it doesn't reach the heights of Smooth with its explosion of expression and unapologetic horror, the melancholy and yearning of Humans are Shapes is a different flavor entirely that is yet to be seen with trans cinema these days which is total uncynical yet heartbreaking sincerity for what love means when it comes to the trans lens against the cis lens for the world we stand on is mostly cis, or can us existing means in some way a change in and of itself to the surroundings that defines and move around us. Theres no easy answers or feelings in Sepi's films but they remain utterly human, even more so as they venture deeper into the uncanny and even inhuman and in that sense, the use of horror and sci fi here, proves most humanistic yet.

Lol as someone who's had a white person tell me "if you weren't asian you would be the whitest girl I've ever met in my life" this was lowkey embarrassing relatable fr
