Figuring out what this whole film means and understanding it is like solving a 1000 piece puzzle.
I love this film so much because of how complex it is. It’s so crazy to interpret how Adam represents commitment and Anthony represents infidelity. the spiders makes so much sense because anthony feels like he is being trapped inside a web and the wife is the spider, controlling him. the dream of him walking past that spider girl is so clever because it just shows his fear of commitment and how he is desperate to cheat and be with a lot of girls. it is also crazy to think how adam is the present and anthony is the past. adam shows commitment. to his wife and his job. anthony shows infidelity, being unfaithful to his wife. adam becomes so obsessed with wanting to meet anthony, which represents adam being obsessed with wanting to visit his past. the atmosphere in this movie also gives such a “ill” or “sick” vibe, even though the radio said it was gonna be sunny. the end of the movie is also so brilliant. because adam wins in the end, showing that he is committed to the relationship, while anthony kills himself with the wife. The crack on the window also shows a spider web. When it seems that adam won and he is ready to be committed, he opens the envelope. It reveals a key to a sex club that was shown in the beginning of the movie. He tells his wife that he is going out, but she is not responding to him. he goes to check on her and boom, she is turned into a giant spider. the wife knew exactly what he was going to do. he couldn’t help himself but let his desires take over him. he couldn’t help that he wanted to go back to that club. the spider shows his fear of commitment. his wife turned into his biggest fear. if u rewatch the movie and watch the beginning, it just seems like a loop. a cycle. showing how he is not committed. showing how he went back to the club.
Overall, such a brilliant movie and it is also heavily underrated. more people really need to check out this masterpiece. it’s such a crazy movie and i will definitely be rewatching this movie sometime later this year.
