Moonlight
'in moonlight, black boys turn blue'.
Barry Jenkins' 2016 piece 'Moonlight' is really something else. though unfortunately being overshadowed by its drama at the Grammy's, i feel one day it will be culturally appreciated as the movie it is. James Laxton's cinematography really makes this film what it is. every shot is so flawless, making the audience either fully immersed into the scene (e.g. 'The Reunion') or taken back by its artistic shots (e.g. 'Black Boys Turn Blue' scene). this, placed together with its perfect casting of Mahershala Ali, André Holland, Jharrel Jerome, Naomie Harris, Jannelle Monáe etc. & its genuine flawless story written by Barry Jenkins & Terrell Alvin McCraney (-of whom the film largely bases its core on) to give one of the most breathtaking, overwhelming films of all time.
honestly, probably every single day i think about 'The Reunion' season featuring the song 'Hello Stranger'. i remember the first time watching this film, i think i listened to that song for a week straight after it.
