Alien
Day 6 Of My October Horrorthon
Today I begin my watch of the Alien Franchise, I love this first movie and have seen it countless times, something about it just grips you, it’s very much a film of two halves, the first a slow building space exploration and the other a survival horror movie, but the outstanding part of this movie is how it sucks you in, just like our characters here we have very little understanding of what’s going on, we have very little understanding of the Xeno and we have no idea why these crew are on there expedition, as the Xeno picks of the crew one by one we are like a additional crew member trying to figure out strategy and how to take down the Xeno and hopefully survive. The best part of this movie is that there’s loads of SHOW DON’T TELL, we only see the Xeno for 4 minutes total but it feels like it carries such a presence, from minute 1 the set design and atmosphere is so well captured I’m convinced I’m in space, and when the Xeno gets introduced and starts roaming around, the tension rises to a boiling point that is hard to match in any piece of media.
