Candyman
Starting off the 2025 Halloween season with a familiar favourite, I’ve always loved this movie, something about it is so poetic and powerful, of course Tony Todd steals the show in this masterful mix of a Twisted Love Story/Social Commentary combined into a traditional slasher story, there’s so many moving parts that are juggled and balanced well and the acting and direction is A+ all across the board, there’s so much powerful imagery and moments as well as implications and subtones that all come together to create this haunting narrative about class and racism, this movie hypnotises you in the same way that the iconic Candyman hypnotises Helen and his brutal lust for violence will have you on the edge of your seat right up to the powerful and haunting ending, there’s so many layers, messages and powerful stories to be told as well as commentary’s, and while it doesn’t outright scare me as much as the first time it’s unsettling beyond belief
