Some of the stunts in this movie made me look up if anyone got seriously injured. Turns out lots of people did. Even though the action is astounding, the comedy brings this movie over the top. The phone scene is genuinely hilarious, and the courtroom scene is brilliantly set up. The plot is fairly basic, but I don’t think this movie needed any other plot lines. It’s perfect at an hour and forty minutes, and I wish movies like this were still made today.

Titanic is a spectacle of a movie that drags a LITTLE toward the end. When the ship started sinking, I paused the movie and saw that there was an hour and a half left. I couldn’t believe it. Also, I know that Jack could’ve survived if Rose and him had taken turns on that stupid door that was clearly big enough to fit them both. I loved Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in this, and their chemistry is unreal, especially with Leo’s charisma. Every set and costume transports the viewer to 1912, and I’m so impressed that they actually built the ship, or at least parts of it, instead of doing everything with visual effects. My last gripe is that Rose heartlessly throws the Heart of the Ocean into the ocean as if Brock Lovett didn’t dedicate YEARS of his life to finding it. She really said, “Fuck you and your little treasure hunt” before she up and died. At least donate it to charity or something.

I remember this being much more confusing as a 10 year old. I’m pretty sure my dad skipped the sex scene too, so that’s probably why I REALLY didn’t understand the plot; however, on a rewatch, everything made sense. Even if my now almost 18 year old brain thinks that the idea of sending your father back in time to impregnate your mother is hilariously ridiculous. Like how and why did James Cameron think of this? The effects are impressive for 1987, but there’s one scene where when Arnold is sitting on his bed in which the fake face is weirdly discolored and off putting. I actually like the clunky stop motion robot at the end as there’s a certain 80’s charm to it. I thought there was going to be more action, but I guess that’s why they made Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
