Maniac
I told you not to go out tonight, didn't I? Every time you go out, this kind of thing happens.
so that’s how they make wigs”- joke I made in 2023 when I fake logged this film.
So this might have been a rewatch, however I’m not too certain on that rn. Well anyway, onto the film, Maniac is a flinching and harrowing exploration of trauma, and a man’s slow descent into madness, and it doesn’t hold back. Frank is terrifying, but not like Norman Bates or Michael Myers, because he’s real, he’s raw. He isn’t killing for the sake of it, he’s killing the women in the hope, that he’s killing the embodiment of his mother, in the flesh. In the ending, All of the mannequins which Frank has, that hold the scalps of his victims, come to life to kill him, symbolising the trauma of Frank’s childhood coming back to haunt, and kill him, showing that no matter how much he tried to hide or even kill his trauma, it’ll always come back to haunt him.
