The Fly
Spooky Season 2024 #9
Woow, I loved this. Body horror is unique genre, and in this it is used to subtly explore so many philosophical questions. This movie has similarities to superhero origin stories. But here it felt more complex and realistic, getting rid of the obvious protagonist and antagonist, and the overused story structure. Also interesting to see Jeff Goldblum in a more serious role, even though he still has his charm. Also fun to see Geena Davis, as I had only seen her in Beetlejuice before this.
I want to compare this a little bit to "The Thing". They are both horror films that came out in the 80's and both have heavy use of practical effects. But for me The Fly uses it's visual effects more to it's advantage. Both fantastic horror movies in general, but I enjoyed this more!
