Donnie Darko
so basically… a depressed teen and a six-foot demonic rabbit try to stop a jet engine from ending the universe using time travel, hallucinations, and the power of teenage angst
donnie’s like “i’m mentally ill and also maybe the chosen one” and his therapist is just like “that’s tough buddy, see you next week”
frank the bunny shows up looking like a haunted easter mascot from hell and tells donnie the world’s gonna end in 28 days and instead of panicking this kid just goes “cool” and starts committing crimes
this movie is a genre smoothie. horror? yes. sci-fi? sure. high school drama? why not. awkward dance numbers and motivational speakers? absolutely
jake gyllenhaal really committed to being insane and hot at the same time. like sir what do you mean you burned down patrick swayze’s house and then kissed your girlfriend in the woods like it was a rom-com
time travel, tangent universes, God portals, manipulated dead... yeah ok let me just go get my science degree real quick so i can understand a single thing
and yet. and yet. it makes sense in the way dreams make sense at 3am. deeply emotional. deeply confusing. deeply cracked
