Sunshine Cleaning
i actually loved this movie so so so much ong??!! initially only went in for emily blunt and i didn't really know anything about this movie except that she was a little gay in this but besides that i went in blind and i was so pleasantly surprised.
this movie really hit me and it made me so emotional, it was really short but even within that time you really start to understand the characters and sympathize with them. this seems like a simple movie on the surface but there's so many layers underneath. it really is just a look into someone's life but that makes it all the more special. it deals with loss and grief and family issues and complicated relationships and affairs, being a single parent and feeling fucked up, not having found your way in life yet even though everyone around you already seems to have it all figured out. and i genuinely think they did such an incredible job with showing all of this in such a real and believable way.
i also just loved emily's character norah in this and her outfits!! to die for are you kidding??! the scene of her under that bridge with the train passing was so incredibly beautiful!!
emily has said that she hasn't played a lesbian since my summer of love (and that she really wants to play another one, girl it's been a while since you said that where are the lesbian roles hello??!!) but you cannot convince me that that girl wasn't gay. there was SO much flirtation happening between her character and the other girl lynn and i mean maybe she wasn't a lesbian necessarily because she was also sort of involved with a guy but the only time we see them together is when norah was with lindy looking at him disgusted and when he was fucking her while she looked like she was having the worst fucking time of her LIFE like she was so uninterested in him and she genuinely cared about lynn. like there was literally a deleted scene of them KISSING (i saw that, didn't know it was deleted, let's say i was very disappointed) like be for real. anyway i still thought it was very obvious their relationship wasn't platonic but i'm still sad they didn't get into all that further and kinda ended it and afterwards didn't really look back at it.
i also loved amy adams & emily blunt as sisters and amy was also absolutely incredible in this i love her sm.
overall i think this is just an underrated gem! it doesn't have a bad rating but it's not great either and i definitely think it deserves a higher one, or at least more acknowledgement cause why does no one talk about this?! peter saraf, who was a producer on little miss sunshine, also produced this movie, and i really think that people who love little miss sunshine might also really like this. I feel like this movie feels really similar to that one in a lot of ways, like in that it's described as a comedy and you go in expecting something a little more light hearted, but instead it's about all these characters just going through life while dealing with so much and they all feel so real, they're not perfect, but they're not imperfect to the point where it seems forced and fake, they're just real humans. i loved this. please please give this the attention it deserves
