Blade Runner 2049
Summary:
A sequel that actually delivered on gravitas, moral message and acting skills that the first one failed (imo) so miserably at.
Really well connects with the first movie, harmonizes great.
Just a piece of art.
Really motivated me to watch some more good sci-fi!!!!
What I liked:
-great performance by Ryan Gosling, Sylvia Hoeks and Carla Juri
- the message was great, him fighting and dying (?) for a cause was great character building
- even though for the whole movie I never really considered the stakes to be high or the plot twist to be shocking: I was still very very much invested in the story
- it was less like a being dragged into the story and being hooked: I was conscious of my surroundings at all times but was just in awe at these visuals and directing choices
-loved how the director played with the elements so much, the iconic rain obviously, the 2 scenes with snow, the waves at the final fight, the fire where the wooden horse toy was supposedly burnt
- really great camera work. The set (/cgi) was fucking amazing! Very nice play with light and shadows. The coloring was also really powerful
- I liked how the year diff between the movies" releases and when they take place matches (kinda?). Had kind of a great balance of being based on the first movie but going it's on way.
- it reminded me a bit of dune II. Great visuals and long movie with a lot of gravitas
- loved the style they went for "futuristic"
- the message worked so well; what makes us human? What is worth fighting for?
- the intimacy and interaction between K and Joi allowed for some nice way of telling the story. If he was just alone some things wouldn't have gotten across. It seemed kind of realistic too and just worked (plus point for ana de armas)
- K's fits were fire AND he smoked, I can't ask for more :)))
- as often mentioned as a positive point: this movie mastered it to have many scenes with mostly silence and still communicate sooo much visually!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What I didn't like:
- I hate those weird kisses before killing someone, this was also in the first movie its just soo off-throwing. This time it was with the Wallace and new replicant model as well as Luv and K/Joe
- Joe is such a fucking Bad Name. Imagine you are a replicant with humanlike planted memories whose name is just a serial number and then you gain kind of a consciousness and meaning of life and you Mfing idiot choose "Joe"......
- I sometimes thought the soundtrack was mid since it didn't play a dictating role but in a way it was in the background doing its job of creating a vibe so thats a really small minus. I just think most 5/5 movies have a more prevalent and stunning sound track
- sometimes I could not follow the story line 100% there were some small things where I didn't quite got why he was going where? And why the language differences? But I watched this at 4am while being very tired so..
- with AI advancements etc JOI is too real and something I never want to see irl but then again with the way she was introduced I couldn't stop but imagining her as like a smart Home application, nothing more
- Harrison Ford's acting was mid, which is miles better than in the first movie but still not good. I have a bias against him
- "that's why sapper let you kill him" - did he????
- why tf does Wallace need more than 1 "eye"-drone?
