Bring Her Back
Imo this is a masterpiece.
This is maybe the most disturbing and unsettling thing I've seen movie wise, maybe top 2 after smile 2. I thought I was used to horror movies but multiple times I had to cover part of my view while watching this.
The watch experience was horrendous but I think that's just what makes it a great horror movie. If I ever watch this again, I need some support person with me there.
The acting was phenomenal (Andy, Piper, Ollie, Laura and even Wendy did great).
Visually this was so fkn disgusting, which was the goal, so "great job".
It was also emotionally moving, thinking of:
-Piper and Andy discovering their father
- Laura gaining pipers and Andy's trust with this party after the funeral
- this whole motive of gaslighting Andy. I am very susceptible to this, it's a fear of mine. Really well executed here with Wendy portraying Andy's hope and then being run over.
- seing piper realize the dead body in front of her is Andy and repeatedly saying their safe word hoping he would wake up
- when the idea of an airplane representing a soul going to heaven was picked up again when Piper is safe from Laura and sits in the car and grieving her brother
I didn't really appreciate it while watching it, but now listening to the soundtrack again, I must say its really good, creating a very creepy vibe.
This movie trope where (after Andy had died) we only followed the visually impaired Piper and we could see all the blood, the damaged house interior and Ollie etc but she couldn't - that worked really well here. I also liked the whole idea of Andy being the main character but actually being killed unexpectedly making the story telling shift. Piper actually outsmarting Laura by calling to her motherly instincts was craaazy smart.
I sat in the movie theater in a mood where I really tried to find flaws in the plot line but I could find none. Laura's greater goal was revealed quite slowly but made sense from her perspective as well as her actions.
