Summary:
This movie is a vibe and so diverse while at it. From groovy jazz and feel good flirting to action and thriller hide and seek scenes.
The music is great, camera work is nice, I absolute love tom cruise's acting in this, he should play the bad guy more often, especially when he is like this one man army.
The diversity in how the movie is paced is just great.
The movie gets even better when Max decides to not surrender to his fate anymore.
All in all I could also go for 4.5/5 but the last 40 minutes or so are just such great cinema. The build up was not perfect but what is
What I liked:
- for the first 20-30 mins Everytime the camera is inside his cab, some nice piano and sometimes drums are playing. Just a feel good nice vibe to it and emotional
- the music in general was nice throughout
- I like tom cruises acting so much. He is sometimes really mean and then proceeds to fix some problems for max. His look is also just splendid in this especially when bruised and after he was shot at
- I liked the subplot when they were at the Bar and had this talk about jazz! I didn't see the plot twist coming (btw David had such a nice voice and spoke similar to Raymond Reddington)
- such a nice contrast between slow and vibey scenes and high paced action
- Vincent's character building paid off and works quite well!
- this movie plays quite well with sudden hope and it' immediate destruction of it. E.g. when detective fanning tried to safe max
Max's speech when he accelerates the cab and crashes it on purpose. That's kind of the turning point when the movie becomes a 5/5
- the camera work was nice overall and phenomenal inside the (2nd) club
- that one scene where they stop the cab for some wolves? I didn't get it but it was a really nice scene with gravitas
- that one scene where Vincent offered 600$ and present the bills like a magic trick. Really satisfying
- loved the twist with Annie Farrell being the 5th victim. I didn't see it coming and it got the suspense up so much
- the fact that max could see the building from this parking place and could see Annie and Vincent at the same time 2 stories apart; made for a great scene
- I like how it turned into a thriller hide and seek thing (+ her seeing his silhouette was quite suspenseful) and how Vincent knew where to find her by the phone redirection thingy
- this long subway scene: just great. So much suspense and stress. His decision making on which subway to get on to had a nice touch to it. The shootout with the door in-between was great to watch.
- Vincent's death scene was crazy. He was so calm. Goosebumps
What I didn't like:
- Vincent preaches anonimity but proceeds to meet Max's mother and often doesnz hide his face and the waitress in the bar will definetly recognize his face as the last to have seen David alive
- there was more potential with showing the detective work simultaneously. They didn't do a good job + it was not interesting
