Jaws
Summary:
A movie that mostly stands the test of time really great! Great actors, great script, great camera. Slow at times. I am pretty sure this movie would lose a lot of its touch when watched on a smaller screen and in another environment - being in the cinema with light off, huge screen and 4k edition really did the movie good
What I liked':
- the play with suspense e.g. you could never guess who in the crowd would get bitten
- that one jump scares with the corpse appearing from within the boat really (!!!) got me. Nothing built up to it, it was a great surprise
- the camera work was fucking amazing. So many great shots!!!!!!! Very creative, very nice play with light and shadow, it also helped that many actors had really striking/prominent faces
- I think the music was great but Im not sure how biased I am since it's so iconic. It really worked in the movie though so probably deservedly iconic.
- loved the acting especially matt Hooper's and quint's character were displayed so so well
- sometimes the scenes were the shark was not shown, just hinted at (e.g. the yellow barrels or when there was a part of a wooden bridge on it etc) worked even better than when it was shown directly. Viewers imagination got pushed quite well
- I adored the father/son scene where the younger child mimics the dad. Its so fucking wholesome wow
- I liked the style of some scenes that had this snarky/witty little dialogues and were generally entertaining and funny
What I didn't like:
- especially in the beginning there were many scenes were around 5 dialogues simultaneously happened and 4 were at least supposed to be in the background but it was all just inaudible. All in all the audio quality was shitty sometimes but it's 50 years old so yea
- many of the "slow" scenes were great for character building etc. And I am very in favor of including many scenes that are not necessarily pushing the story line forward! But some were just toooo boring and slow. Not many though
