The Revenant
Fitzgerald? More like Shitherald AMIRITE
I found God. He was a Squirrel. I shot and ate that son of a bitch.
Loved the background sounds as well as the string music/ drums. Just beautiful to hear.
Especially in combination with those nature landscape shots, wow. Very very satisfying.
I obviously loved the camera in this, they chose to have a lot of longshots with so much camera movement, it was incredibly dynamic and fast. The camera often came really really close to the scene and for example the bear breathing affected the camera too, nice to see that.
Normally I have my problems with long movies and also movies with a lot of silence since they bore me. This one has both and it didn't feel at all long or boring!!
I liked how it always had different story lines. E.g. Glass's, The Captain's, Fitzgerald's. And even when the locations and group formations were switching it always had more than one. Very nice for variety!
Leo's acting was just on point. Loved it. I could watch that man's struggle for survival for hours.
There really aren't many things I have to criticize and those that exist are really minor:
-Especially in the first half there were so many scenes where the camera was fully on person A but person b was speaking but really not far away but the sound was really muffled and dampened. That was a bit weird.
-I kind of thought the Captain's efforts to safe Glass in the beginning and "Hawke" (aka Glass) in the end were a bit over the top. He is shown as a very virtuos man and I overall liked his character a lot actually, but this was a bit unrealistic I think.
-I hate when traps are set up brilliantly but fail in the execution. Fitzgerald was aiming at the dead body and he had the moment of surprise and a gun but only hits the shoulder.. he could've taken a few seconds more to aim.. the resulting chase and fight made up for it, but it still bothered me for a few minutes.
-I also thought Glass's Motive was quite obviously not his own survival but revenge. They made that subtly clear. Why tf did they then feel the need to make him blantly write into the snow "Fitzgerald killed my Son.": an insult to the viewer's intelligence tbh
