The Batman
wow… just. wow.
first of all, i really enjoyed watching this movie.
i was in awe with its cinematography, the direction, and of course—battinson himself.
this really made you feel that batman is still on his early years, experienced but not yet polished. i love how bruce was conflicted when he found out about what his father did. the grief of thinking that the father you looked up to all your life doesn’t deserve your unwavering faith.
and boy do i love the juxtaposition of bruce and the riddler. both victim of gotham’s dark alleys, corrupted people, grew up seeing the horrors of gotham—yet they chose a different path. both wanted to make a difference—in their own ways.
the film really did good in making us sympathize with the riddler (or maybe i live in the philippines and what he was doing is something i’m praying to happen with our corrupt elites; because you know what? we’re beyond saving as long as they’re at the top). but i also love how it showed us that good intentions doesn’t end with just being “intentions”. it will still boil down on how it will affect the people.
and the riddler was too blinded to see what he was doing. shame. i think he would have been a good anti hero.
my only nitpick would be—i would have love to see bruce wayne be one step ahead with his villain, aside from just picking up the clues purposely left by the riddler (saw this from a comment and i agree lol). i want to see him one step ahead and i would want more of his tech gadgets! batarangs, batwings, etc. but hey, it’s his still first two (?) years as the batman so it’s okay!
lastly, i LOVE how the part during the flood scene where batman was helping the people get to safety. because batman, despite being the equivalent of boogeyman to the criminals, wants nothing but to help the people. and despite being called the dark night, he still embodies hope to the people.
and yes, he’s making a change. not much yet, but a change is a change. :)
