Predator: Badlands
First off, let me say that this movie is so radically different from prey, that your feelings about that movie are pretty irrelevant. Personally, I’m some sort of freak apparently because I kind of hated prey.
I felt like it was flat, and the action sucked, and it looked bad, and it was cgi heavy for less interesting stuff than we saw in the original two movies.
This movie however , is also cgi heavy, but it does interesting and exciting things with that cgi.
It’s basically the island segments of Peter Jackson’s King Kong, but in space, and from the perspective of a predator.
Despite being pg-13, this movie is full of memorable kills (again, in comparison to the utterly forgettable ones we saw in Prey).
The core relationship between the predator and thia is pretty effective, and the plot itself expands and explores the predator universe.
Some of the jokes come close to that mcu style of cringe, but the movie has enough heart to get away with it (kind of like the guardian movies, but toned down a bit.)
Quite frankly, this is about on par for me as the original, but that could be recency bias.
Loved this movie. Loved it so much.
