Short no.7 Funny rating: 10 <blockquote>SEND MORE CATS</blockquote>The first truly perfect Tom and Jerry short, made while the U.S had just joined the war, the first Oscar winning short showed the two fighting it out on the battlefield (the basement). The slapstick has now been perfected, extremely fast paced really well timed. So many of the jokes in this were later reused in other shorts, inlcuding that one use of blackface, I always thought that the joke was he looked like a sunflower but I guess that just shows my innocence.

Short no.3 Funny rating: 8 Probablies the most heart warming Tom and Jerry will ever get, which makes sense for a christmas short, that ending still hits the spot years later, and especially when you realise that its the first time the two are shown looking out for eachother. Although Tom and Jerry will always brutalise eachother in the most malicious ways possible, it's always a joy to watch them working together. As well as this, the slapstick is alot tighter and faster paced that in the first two, one of my personal favourites.

Short no.1 Funny rating: 5 Possibly one of the most important pieces of media in my life, it's influence cannot be understated, who I would be today without Tom and Jerry, yet alone what the world of animation would be. I know this short back to front, every sound and frame is permanently etched into my memory, so yes this is a big deal. Looking at it critically alongside the other shorts, it doesn't come close to the comedic genius of what would come later.

Short no.4 Funny rating: 9 The funniest short yet, the jokes are alot more creative, from sucking the 9 lives out of Tom with a hoover, to the absolute terror that washes over Tom during the ghost story, one of my favourites as a ki.

Short no.6 Funny rating: 8 Containing one of the first true Tom yells, Puss n toots, also introduces us to one of Tom's defining character flaws, he's a simp. It also contains that one chinese joke, and this has made me realise that yes there is gonna be alot of racism throughout this whole series.

Short no.5 Funny rating: 8 The first short to have the i conic duo working together against a common enemy, being the first appearance of Spike. And although he's yet to earn his voice, being just a rampaging vicious bulldog, he would soon become one of the most dialogue heavy characters in the show. Another thing of note is that its technically the first time Jerry speaks, whispering into Tom's ear.

Short no.2 Funny rating: 6 Wheras 'Puss gets the boot' layed the groundwork for what a tom and jerry short would be, Midnight snack really brings the characters of Tom and Jerry to life, partly because this was where they got they're names. Tom is now, well, Tom, sure he's yet to have the iconic scream and still scowls like a real cat, but he is alot more playful and even cuter looking in this one. And they also gave Jerry a name. Thank god.
