I'm Still Here

This film is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is one of the most complete films that I have seen in a while and my favourite film of 2024. Fernanda Torres is an exceptional actress and I really do think she deserves an Oscar for Best Actress as her part is arguably one of the most demanding of the year and she plays it flawlessly. Growing up I was always told stories of family in Brazil who lived through the Dictatorship and how similar it was to Salazar's dictatorship in Portugal. This film is the most hard-hitting, eye-opening piece of media I have watched about these dictatorships. It's incredibly important to remember the people who were made to be forgotten and this film does a stellar job at that. This isn’t just a great film, it’s a great piece on history.  Worth noting that, at the screening I attended, everyone was speechless at the ending and stayed for all of the credits. It was the most silence exit of a cinema I have ever seen. If that doesn't speak levels about this film, I don't know what does.
