Yeah, this is probably one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

I’m currently having the headache of my life so it’ll be somewhat of a challenge to write a proper review. At the same time my train doesn’t stop for another three hours so really what should I do instead? *The Young Girls of Rochefort* is an amazing, incredible, and all the words there between musical. I can say for certain that it’s my second favorite musical of all time, only behind *Singin’ in the Rain* and even that could be debatable. Basically what I’m getting at is that you should totally watch this because it’s like so good. The vibrant colors and set design are so intensely stunning. People often say that every frame of *Barry Lyndon *looks like a painting and to them I present *The Young Girls of Rochefort*. Checkmate. Gene Kelly somehow fits like a glove in this musical and honestly my bad for doubting his inclusion. His moves are on point and his voice is like butter. Speaking of, the choreography is absolutely brilliant and meticulous, it’s insane. My initial question to watching this was how it was going to stand next to another one of Jacques Demy’s musicals - [*The Umbrellas of Cherbourg*](https://boxd.it/exfD8H)**. To answer that question, it blows it out of the water. While *Umbrellas *does have a story with way more emotional weight it does not have the same charm as this. Also *Umbrellas* does have the gimmick where every piece of dialogue is sung which does work but up against a real musical with grand numbers it ultimately falls short. I gotta watch more Jacques Demy
