Wicked
i don't even know what to say. i think this movie was fucking great. i think elphaba and glinda and fiyero and nessarose and boq and madam morrible and the wizard were perfectly cast. i really appreciate the lessons in intersectionality. nessarose is discriminated against, and elphaba understands and tries to help. animals are quite obviously being muted and silenced anf elphaba tries to help. she's a kind person, but no-one openly speaks up for her. (definitely doesn't represent the struggles of black women or anything. this is just a movie!) until glinda, who finally does something well and truly kind. but only bc elphaba did something kind first. elphaba is naturally talented. and better but that's neither here nor there. ariana grande-buterra is such a force of acting nature (subtle performance right away rahhh) that i was worried that cynthia errivo would be undermined by her ability. obviously i had nothing to worry about. i patiently wait for the next movie, which is obviously coming out next week. anything longer that would be cruel and unusual punishment and obviously illegal :)
