The scores are irrelevant It is the order that matters Favourites are just films on my mind atm

I had pretty mid expectations of this, I wasn’t even going to see it at the cinema but I have Odeon Limitless and a spare evening so I though meh it isn’t costing me anything. So glad I did, it’s visually GORGEOUS! Definitely something to see on the big screen, the lighting was perfect. I had seen people, quite a few actually, say this film has no purpose but I couldn’t dissagree more, the performances were so strong and clearly are making a point, especially that ending! Spoilers sort of, but I originally got a rush of disappointment with it not ending on the 4 screens and Hansen’s final shot, but once I got what they were doing with Decoy Dan with that final letter and question of if he’s an actor, was his selling of his innocence worth it? Chefs kiss. I am a huge fan of a film with not one single decent person as a character and this ticks that box so I guess if you don’t like that sort of thing then your mileage may differ.

I enjoyed this more than I expected as I’m usually not really one to go out of my way to see a biographical film but being an admirer of Bourdain I thought I’d give it a go. It’s nice to know that Matt Johnson knows how to deliver a brief, I also liked the music by Jay McCarrol, it fit the film perfectly. Yeah, a good story that wasn’t afraid to be like “yeah no this guy really is a piece of shit but here is the necerssary journey”. I’ll happily watch anything by Matt Johnson.

Back when I owned my own comic book shop if you had come in and told me there was going to be a origin story film about Clayface I’d have looked at you with eyes filled with tired resignation. Never in a millions years would I have bet that they could even make that film good let alone one I’d enjoy… but here we are.

Honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect but by the end I found it to be really strong in its message. Also I want to praise the music in this, to be fair I want to praise a lot of it but I’m going to put that down to the director just knowing what they wanted and doing exactly that. A surprise banger, I’m putting it up there with Wanda as far as almost lost media that would have been a tragedy to have lost to time.
