Blade Runner 2049
This is the best movie I have ever seen hands down. Visually it is flawless. It’s science fiction at its peak. The blend between special effects that utilise Practical methods alongside groundbreaking stunning cgi is incredible. The psychological and emotional themes paired with one of the best yet most unstable protagonists I’ve ever seen. The story manages to be an expansion of the blade runner world by utilising visual world building as well and relying on plot elements of the first movie to drive the story forward yet it has enough context and enough information for you to figure out that it works perfectly fine as a standalone story. Officer K is a brilliant protagonist like I said earlier but Rick Deckard’s return even if short was a great addition to the movie but if they had the balls to keep him out of all the advertising and let us debate whether or not he’d appear before and during the movie that would’ve added a whole layer to the movie. The plotline about Rachael’s corpse was really not what I was expecting going into this although I did like the tie ins between this movie and the original. Jared Leto isn’t a great actor but even his mild performance doesn’t effect the quality of this incredible movie. The contrasting themes, the world building, the cyberpunk aesthetic everything about Blade Runner 2049 is perfect from start to finish, the acting performances, the plot, the psychological horrors, not only does it manage to be better than the original blade runner but it manages to earn the title of what I believe is the greatest piece of cinema I’ve ever watched and man that final scene is just breathtakingly beautiful and put together. I may have not watched as much as some cinephiles but it takes a good movie to earn all the glaze I’ve just given it.
