Amélie
Wauw! This is one of those movies where you finish it and just sit and stare at your screen for a while.
Such a unique, interesting and captivating style of storytelling. I loved that I didn't even know this was a love story until near the end. Rather than feeling forced and fake, it felt sweet and natural.
There were a lot of little moments that made me smile and giggle because I was genuinely happy for the characters. E.g. the first time Amélie helped someone (Dominique Bretodeau) or when she helped Nino solve the mysterie of the photobooth man. Just seeing the beautiful emotions of the characters in those moments was amazing. I could feel the relief/satisfaction of Nino and the nostalgia/melancholy of Dominique.
Apart from all these things, Amélie also has ONE OF THE BEST soundtracks ever! The music fits so well with the scenes and adds so much character to them. But they knew exactly when to add music, and when to leave it out. Like in one of the last scenes, where Amélie and Nino finally meet, it's completely quiet. No music, no talking, just two people standing there and taking in each other's beauty and mysterie while you can hear the floor creak when they lean in for a kiss.
