Lust, Caution

Incredibly deep Japanese occupation thriller with sensitively done ungratuitous graphic sex. There are a million and one plausible interpretations of the mechanics behind various allegiances, political feelings, etc, but cascades of meaningful emotional layers too. Concentrate, because the opening mahjong scene, masterfully directed and edited, lays out the various power games that will echo throughout the film. Nothing is as it seems. Just like in real life, a mahjong game is never just a mahjong game.
