Aliens
(Theatrical Cut)
I still prefer the original Alien (mainly for its originality and horror), but this is still a brilliant way to do a sequel. Cameron’s direction throughout the whole film is amazing, the editing and pacing are incredibly good and it’s full of iconic moments which still hold up 32 years later. Sigourney Weaver has never been better in my opinion.
Yes, some of the dialogue particularly from Hudson is a little annoying and cheesy, but it suits his character going from a cocky douchebag to almost a child fearing for his life after he encounters the Xenomorphs in their nest for the first time.
So many good moments, but my absolute favourite has to be the reveal of the Queen. Up till now, we and Ripley have been terrified by the regular Xenos, but the Queen is a whole different thing and it’s handled with absolute perfection by Cameron and his editors. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.
Will be checking this out with commentary and also the Special Edition (which I’ve never really watched before).
